Concerts for Holocaust survivors

On Tuesday, September 15,2020 just a few days before Rosh HaShana, at 7.30pm fifteen chamber ensembles of the Israel Philharmonic performed before Holocaust survivors throughout Israel: in Naharia, Kiriat Yam, Carmiel, Nof HaGalil, Hadera, Ra’anana, Natanya, Givat Shmuel, Rehovot, Kfar Saba, Petach Tikwa, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Kiriat Gad and Be’er Sheva.

What a special moment of salute, memory and hope! A tribute to Bronislaw Huberman’s incredible vision to save dozens of Jewish musicians and their families from Nazi atrocities by establishing the Palestine Orchestra, which in 1948 evolved into the IPO or course, and to the generation of survivors all over the country who all proudly stood up as the musicians played HaTikvah at the end of each of the 14 concerts.

This extraordinary musical tribute was initiated by the IPO Foundation in collaboration with JOINT as part of the Orchestra’s mission to connect people to the healing powers of music.
